Nutcracker phenomenon presenting as left varicocele.

چکیده
A 27-year-old man with good past health presented with a left varicocele. He had no urinary symptoms and urine microscopy did not show haematuria. Subsequent ultrasound scan showed a grossly distended left renal vein. The crosssectional view of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed compression of the left renal vein between the superior mesenteric artery and the aorta, before the vein joins the inferior vena cava (Fig 1). This compression caused the marked dilatation of the distal left renal vein with associated venous hypertension (nutcracker phenomenon). The coronal view showed dilated vasculature over the upper pole of the left kidney (Fig 2), which was caused by the venous hypertension. The patient subsequently underwent laparoscopic varicocelectomy and conservative treatment was adopted for the left renal vein compression.

An Unusual Course of Segmental Renal Artery Displays a Rare Case of Hilar Nutcracker Phenomenon
Nutcracker phenomenon or renal vein entrapment is classically seen as a compression of renal vein in between abdominal aorta and superior mesenteric artery with patients being asymptomatic or clinically manifested in the form of nutcracker syndrome as proteinuria, hematuria, flank pain, pelvic congestion in women, and varicocele in men. In this report, we are presenting a case of rare variant o...
متن کاملNutcracker phenomenon or nutcracker syndrome?
Sir, Chang et al. [1] describe a young patient in whom a nutcracker syndrome was diagnosed by magnetic resonance imaging and magnetic resonance angiography. Patients with nutcracker phenomenon are usually young and slim, and the diagnosis can be made by ultrasound. There are established criteria for the diagnosis of the entrapment of the left renal vein by two-dimensional ultrasonography and Do...
متن کاملThe Nutcracker Syndrome: an Underdiagnosed Cause for High Grade Varicocele
Background: The nutcracker syndrome represents a clinical condition caused by compression of the left renal vein (LRV) between the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) and the aorta. One of its manifestations is left-sided varicocele. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of nutcracker syndrome in patients with primary and recurrent high grade left-sided varicocele. Methods: Fifty pa...
متن کاملAn Incidental Detection of Nutcracker Phenomenon in an Adolescent with Transient High Blood Pressure: A Case Report
Nutcracker phenomenon (NCP) is caused by a compression of left renal vein between aorta and superior mesenteric artery. The traditional clinical manifestations of nutcracker syndrome is usually accompanied with abdominal pain, hematuria, orthostatic proteinuria, and varicocele formation, however, hypertension is rarely reported as main clinical feature. We describe a male adolescent with manife...
